Montestefano, nicknamed “The most Barolo among the Barbarescos“, is among the most important crus of the denomination, and differs from the others for its “barollegiante” characteristic, i.e. the ability to give life to wines with an important tannic component, with a depth and a unique longevity.
Compared to the various crus of Barbaresco, it has always been considered among experts as the cru that gives life to more structured and persistent wines, with complex hints of small fruits, medicinal herbs and very fine spiciness. Evolving hints of leather, tobacco and truffle.
Our Barbaresco Montestefano Riserva comes from a small vineyard of ca. 3400 square meters, planted in 1951, located halfway up the hill and facing south – south west. The soil is calcareous-clayey, the vineyard is among the steepest in the area, with excellent drainage and therefore has better stability of the bunches even in the rainiest years. Montestefano is usually among the last slopes to be harvested.
For all the reasons mentioned above our Montestefano is produced in small quantities, only in great vintages. It is put on the market with the Riserva mention, to the delight of wine enthusiasts… who know how to wait and love wines of great charm!
